Farm to Fork Summit at No 10 Downing Street
On Tuesday 16 May 2023, Chris Butler, MD of Thanet Earth attended the Farm to Fork Summit at No 10 Downing Street hosted by the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak.
The focus of the summit was on how government and industry can work together to support a thriving UK food industry and included attendees from across the whole UK supply chain.
In a speech to the attendees the Prime Minster said, “we need to change the way that our country works to support all of you.”
Some positive points that came out of the summit were:
- As part of the Government’s drive for innovation, support for the construction of glasshouses will be included in their new and expanded Fruit and Vegetable Scheme.
- Confirmation of a significant uplift in worker visas for the coming year, with the capacity for a further top up.
- The inclusion of glasshouses in the Energy Bills Relief Scheme and a promise that the Government will investigate what more can be done to support the sector due to its unique needs.
Chris commented, “I was encouraged by the discussions and in particular the additional support for the glasshouse growing sector, this support goes some way to ensuring that Thanet Earth can play a major part in the future food security of the UK.”
